When the Canton Fair meets "buy now, return later", the daily average number of departure tax refunds in Guangzhou has increased by 1.68 times compared to the same period last year.
The "Key Points of Work for Cultivating and Constructing Guangzhou as an International Consumer Center City by 2025" propose optimizing the layout of duty-free shops for outbound travelers, promoting the expansion of product categories, and popularizing the "buy-now, refund-now" measures. Since the implementation of outbound tax refunds in 2016 and the pilot program for "buy-now, refund-now" convenience measures in 2023, Guangzhou's outbound tax refund shops have continuously expanded their product range, with 349 shops now eligible for outbound tax refunds. Ten shops, including Guangbai and Friendship, have implemented the first batch of "buy-now, refund-now" pilots, with most of the shops located in the Tianhe Road commercial area. Among them, the Guangzhou Taikoo Hui shopping mall was the first to launch outbound tax refund shops and "buy-now, refund-now" online one-stop services on the opening day of the 137th Canton Fair. 25 brand merchants participated, allowing inbound travelers to complete the tax refund process in a one-stop manner by uploading relevant information and certificates using their personal phones in the store after purchasing desired items from participating merchants at Taikoo Hui. The refunded tax money can reach their accounts in as fast as 5 minutes, improving the convenience of shopping and tax refunds for outbound travelers. Ten "buy-now, refund-now" pilot service shops, such as Guangbai and Friendship, are also gradually launching the "online self-service" tax refund mode, providing more options for overseas travelers. It is reported that since the opening of the Canton Fair on April 15, the daily average number of outbound tax refund transactions in Guangzhou has reached a historical high, increasing by 1.68 times compared to the same period last year.
