The China Consumers Association releases "May Day" consumer tips: Practice the "Clean Plate Campaign" and resist food waste.
Food consumption should follow the principle of "eat as much as you need". Consumers can proactively inquire about the portion sizes of dishes before ordering, and choose scientifically balanced meal options such as "small portion dishes" or "half portion dishes". For family gatherings, it is recommended to select dishes based on the number of diners, and to pack leftovers after the meal to avoid blindly pursuing large dishes or extravagant items. Food service providers should fulfill their duty to inform, by indicating portion sizes and recommended number of diners on the menu to provide consumers with guidance on ordering meals. Many consumers choose to host wedding banquets during the May Day holiday. Banquet consumption should abandon the outdated notion of "showing off" and being extravagant. When booking banquets, consumers should determine the number of tables based on actual needs, and avoid adding extra tables for the sake of appearances. For large-scale banquet events such as weddings or business banquets, it is recommended to negotiate with the hotel in advance on the disposal of leftovers to avoid food waste. Food service businesses should strictly adhere to the regulations of the "Anti-Food Wasting Law", and should not set minimum consumption standards or encourage consumers to over-order. It is encouraged to adopt new service methods such as separate servings and serving dishes based on the number of guests to reduce waste at the source.
