Why is the growth rate of electricity consumption lower than the GDP growth rate? National Energy Administration: largely influenced by high temperatures and the leap year factor.
On April 28th, Xing Yiteng, Deputy Director of the Development Planning Department of the National Energy Administration, responded to reporters at the regular press conference of the National Energy Administration. He mentioned that two factors, the leap year and the warmer temperatures this year compared to the same period last year, had a significant impact on the growth rate of electricity consumption in the first quarter. "The leap year factor alone reduced the electricity consumption growth rate by 1.2 percentage points. Due to the warmer temperatures, the electricity consumption for urban and rural residents in January and February only increased by 0.1% year-on-year. The electricity load for some industries in the second and third industries also decreased due to the warmer temperatures. If we exclude these two factors, the growth rate of electricity consumption in the first quarter is higher than the fourth quarter of last year," said Xing Yiteng.
