The EU will introduce an action plan to reverse the prevailing situation of lagging behind in artificial intelligence.
At a time when the global artificial intelligence competition is in full swing, the European Commission recently officially launched the "AI Continental Action Plan", attempting to reverse its lagging position in the field of AI through the three pillars of policy relaxation, computing power infrastructure, and industry applications. This plan is seen as a complementary strategy to the officially effective "Artificial Intelligence Act" in 2024, marking a significant shift in EU AI policy from "regulatory priority" to "equal emphasis on regulation and innovation". Hanna Verkuin, Executive Vice President responsible for technology sovereignty affairs at the European Commission, emphasized in a statement that a key measure in the new action plan is to minimize the regulatory burden on relevant industries as much as possible and ensure that the "Artificial Intelligence Act" is simple and conducive to innovation. This statement is seen as a subtle adjustment to EU AI policy by the outside world.
