The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government plans to reduce smoking rates and protect public health through the proposed "Smoking (Public Health) (Amendment) Bill 2025". The bill includes various smoking control measures, such as increasing the fine for carrying more than 19 duty-free cigarettes into Hong Kong from 2000 Hong Kong dollars to 5000 Hong Kong dollars starting from January next year. It also involves the introduction of tax-paid cigarette identification labels, stricter penalties for smuggling illicit cigarettes, expanding smoke-free areas, and prohibiting the possession of alternative smoking products. Additionally, smoking will be prohibited within designated areas while waiting for public transport, waiting to enter cinemas, hospitals, public playgrounds, sports venues, etc., with fines for violators doubling from 1500 Hong Kong dollars to 3000 Hong Kong dollars. The entrance and exit areas within 3 meters of childcare centers, hospitals, clinics or health centers run by the Department of Health, and facilities will be designated as no smoking zones.
