Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the United States answers questions from reporters on the US's hopes to discuss the issue of tariffs with China.
Question: Recently, the US has repeatedly expressed willingness to reach an agreement with China on the issue of tariffs and stated that both sides have engaged in dialogues. What is China's response to this?
Such statements are purely misleading. As far as I know, China and the US have not held discussions or negotiations on the issue of tariffs, let alone reached an agreement. This tariff war was initiated by the US, and they are the ones who must take the initiative to resolve it. If the US truly wants to solve the problem through dialogue and negotiations, they should correct their mistakes, stop using threats and extortion, completely remove all unilateral tariff measures against China, and engage in dialogue with China on the basis of equality, respect, and mutual benefit.
Respecting each other, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation are the right ways for China and the US to coexist in the new era. Saying that they want to reach an agreement with China while continuously exerting extreme pressure is not the correct way to deal with China, and it is also not effective.
