Wang Yi meets with Tajikistan's Foreign Minister Mukhriddin
On April 25, 2025 local time, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Tajikistan's Foreign Minister Mukhriddin in Almaty. Wang Yi said that in July last year, President Xi Jinping made a milestone state visit to Tajikistan and jointly announced with President Rahmon the upgrading of China-Tajikistan relations to a new era of comprehensive strategic partnership, opening a new chapter in the history of building a Chinese-Tajik community of shared destiny at a higher level. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China-Tajikistan comprehensive cooperation has continuously achieved positive results. China firmly supports Tajikistan in pursuing a development path that suits its national conditions, resolutely opposes any interference in Tajikistan's internal affairs, and will solidly implement the spirit and deployment of the Central Conference on Work Around the Periphery, further consolidate strategic mutual trust with Tajikistan, deepen development integration, expand friendly exchanges, and help each other in modernization and prosperity. Mukhriddin said that last year, President Xi Jinping successfully made a historic state visit to Tajikistan, reached important consensus with President Rahmon, clarified a new direction for bilateral relations, promoted mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and China to an unprecedented high level, and provided assistance for Tajikistan's sustainable development. Tajikistan is willing to work with China to make good use of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, jointly build the Belt and Road, strengthen legislative institutions, local cooperation, cultural exchanges, expand economic and trade investment, interconnection, e-commerce, capacity industry, green transformation, medical pharmaceutical and other fields of cooperation. Welcome more Chinese companies to invest and do business in Tajikistan, and explore more innovative cooperation growth points. The two sides exchanged views on multilateral cooperation and will jointly support the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the China-Central Asia mechanism to play a greater role, strengthen border control and counter-terrorism cooperation, and maintain regional security and stability.
Wang Yi stated that China welcomes Tajikistan to play a greater role in international and regional affairs, and supports Tajikistan in hosting the first international high-level conference on glacier protection. The two sides also exchanged views on the current tariff issue. Wang Yi emphasized that China resolutely counters the US unilateral bullying actions, not only to safeguard its own legitimate rights and interests, but also to uphold the common interests of the international community, and is willing to work with all parties to jointly safeguard free trade, oppose protectionism, and defend international fairness and justice.
