The Trump administration has stated that it is restoring the student visa registrations of thousands of foreign students in the United States who recently had their legal status abruptly terminated. The recent cancellation of over a thousand international student visas or legal statuses by the U.S. government continues to escalate. On April 18th, over 100 affected international students collectively filed a lawsuit in U.S. federal court, demanding the restoration of their legal status and to stop the U.S. government from continuing to implement this policy. On his inauguration day on January 20th, Trump signed an executive order requiring the U.S. State Department to list "countries with insufficient information for screening and vetting, to partially or fully suspend entry of citizens from these countries." U.S. media reported in March that the Trump administration is considering implementing visa restrictions on citizens from 43 countries. In late March, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated that over 300 visas have already been revoked, "mostly student visas, with some being tourist visas."
