White House National Economic Council Director Hassett downplayed market concerns about financing AI infrastructure buildout, saying the financial system has ample capital to fund related investments. Speaking to CNBC on Monday about the AI industry, Hassett said: "It's actually a very well-financed ecosystem." He was responding to questions about last week's sharp selloff in tech stocks. The Nasdaq Composite Index had fallen to its lowest level since July. Hassett acknowledged that there are indeed "some companies that may be highly leveraged and cause for concern." But he noted that "there are also many large, cash-rich companies in the market that hold equity and debt in other companies and may be willing to step in and take over when certain companies run into trouble." He said: "With this much cash in the ecosystem, I think investors should take comfort from that even after last week's stock market decline." Turning to market moves, he added that after a big rally, "sometimes the market does need a pullback," but he sees "absolutely no risk of a broad selloff."
