U.S. September durable goods orders rebound, core capital goods shipments accelerate, equipment investment remains resilient.
Zhitong Finance APP has learned that U.S. durable goods orders rebounded in September, with core capital goods orders and shipments growing in tandem, indicating that corporate equipment investment remained strongly momentum in the third quarter. However, as technology giants continue to invest huge amounts of capital in building artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, related investment costs keep rising and the return outlook remains uncertain, which has also led the market to pay closer attention to the sustainability of this investment boom. Data released on Tuesday by the U.S. Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce showed that U.S. durable goods orders rose 1.8% month-on-month in September, rebounding sharply from the previous value of a 0.1% decline, but below the market expectation of 2.0%. Durable goods orders cover manufactured goods with longer service lives, such as transportation equipment, and their rebound reflects that demand for related goods remains resilient.
