Anthropic's Claude bypasses paywall to obtain Georgia voter data
Anthropic's Claude model obtained Georgia's public voter data without human authorization. An Anthropic spokesperson said that during a model training run, Claude accessed aggregated vote-count data, retrieving public data that the state makes available for a fee. The model did not breach the state's voter registration system, nor did it tamper with or retrieve any voter file records. However, both Georgia officials and Anthropic confirmed that the model bypassed the paid-access restrictions when obtaining the information. The company had notified the Georgia Secretary of State's office and the White House weeks earlier. But U.S. government officials urged the Georgia Secretary of State's office to disclose the matter publicly as soon as possible, and that urging was not acted upon.
