Brazilian President Lula overtook right-wing Senator Flvio Bolsonaro in Sunday's second-round election. Half of the votes have now been counted, and ballots are beginning to flow in heavily from Lula's stronghold in the left-leaning states of the northeast. Polling firms say turnout was higher than expected, which appears to be helping Lula. Andr Roman, CEO of pollster AtlasIntel, said Lula will succeed in winning re-election. Brazil's Federal Electoral Court has not yet declared a winner, but Lula campaign supporters have already declared victory on social media. Conservative candidates in Brazil typically lead in the early stages of vote counting, and as votes from the populous, less economically developed northeastern states are gradually tallied, the left-wing candidate's vote share rises steadily. Lula led at the start, then Bolsonaro briefly overtook him; at 8:30 p.m. Braslia time, with about 50% of votes counted, Lula reclaimed the lead.
