Shengli Jiyang shale oil estimated resources of 10.52 billion tons
In China's newly added petroleum resources, shale oil is occupying an increasingly important position. Ten years ago, after assessment, foreign experts asserted that the shale oil in the Bohai Bay Basin had no commercial extraction value. Today, China's first national-level demonstration zone for shale oil in a continental faulted lacustrine basin has been built here, with cumulative oil production exceeding 2.2 million tons, and two hundred-million-ton-level oilfields, Xinxing and Xinhe, have also been proven. Today, the estimated resources of shale oil in Shengli Jiyang reach 10.52 billion tons, equivalent to another "new Shengli" having "grown" beneath the land of the Shengli Oilfield. Guo Xusheng, director of the National Key Laboratory of Shale Oil and Gas Enrichment Mechanisms and Effective Development, said: "China's continental shale oil has no precedent in the world to follow; we are taking a path of completely independent innovation. In 2025, the country's shale oil production exceeded 8.5 million tons, more than ten times that of 2018. This means that our country has a realistic strategic replacement for keeping the energy rice bowl firmly in its own hands."
