Biren Technology's Wei Ming: The other side of idle computing power is that high-end computing power is "extremely scarce"
The 2026 Sustainable Global Leaders Conference was held from October 20 to 22 at the Huangpu Expo Park in Shanghai. At the industry thematic forum "Advancing High-Quality Development with Eastern Strength," Wei Ming, Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning at Biren Technology, pointed out that the computing power market shows a clear structural contradiction: on the one hand, some computing power sits idle, while on the other hand, high-end computing power is "extremely scarce." "If you ask large model companies what the most challenging thing is this year, it's the lack of computing power, the lack of high-end computing power," Wei Ming said. He noted that domestic high-end chips now have sufficient computing power to provide corresponding services, offering practical support for alleviating the shortage of high-end computing power. At the same time, idle computing power can also be put to use through methods such as PD separationpairing domestic cards with stronger computing power with other cards with stronger memory, so that different chips can each play to their strengths, gradually resolving the idle problem with new technologies. In Wei Ming's view, as domestic chip capabilities improve and scheduling technology matures, the contradiction of idle and scarce computing power coexisting is expected to ease gradually, and he is full of confidence in the application prospects of domestic cards.
