Journalists learned from State Grid Shandong Electric Power Company on October 10 that the Yantai-Weihai 1000 kV ultra-high-voltage alternating-current power transmission and transformation project was officially completed and put into operation on October 10. This is the first newly built ultra-high-voltage alternating-current power transmission and transformation project to be put into operation nationwide during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, and it is also a key channel serving the outward transmission of clean energy from the Yantai-Weihai area of Shandong. According to the introduction, the Yantai-Weihai 1000 kV ultra-high-voltage alternating-current power transmission and transformation project started construction in June 2025. The total converted single-circuit length of the line is 1,197 kilometers, passing through five cities: Yantai, Qingdao, Rizhao, Weifang, and Linyi. It includes the construction of one new 1000 kV switching station, the expansion of two 1000 kV substations, and the erection of 2,124 towers, among which 822 towers were constructed in hilly and mountainous areas and 17 towers were constructed in sea areas. The Yantai-Weihai area gathers the vast majority of Shandong's nuclear power and half of its offshore wind and solar power generation, and is accelerating its transformation from a traditional "power receiving end" to an important "power sending end." It is expected that by the end of the "15th Five-Year Plan," the surplus electricity that the Yantai-Weihai area needs to transmit outward will exceed 30 million kilowatts. The commissioning of the project has opened up the "main artery" for the outward transmission of electricity from the Yantai-Weihai clean energy base, and is of great significance for promoting Shandong's energy transition, ensuring safe and reliable power supply, and supporting green, low-carbon, and high-quality development.
