China operates a "merger control review system" for transactions such as corporate investment and M&A. According to the State Administration for Market Regulation, a dedicated "simplified merger review system" for M&A transactions unlikely to raise competition concerns has been in place for 12 years, with review efficiency continuing to improve. Since the beginning of this year, nearly 89% of unconditionally approved cases have gone through the simplified procedure, with the average review time shortened from 39.9 days in 2014 to 18.6 days.
