European stocks opened weaker on Wednesday, contrasting with another record close on Wall Street overnight. Brent crude returned above $100 a barrel as the market focused on potential supply risks from Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and storms in the Gulf of Mexico. Meanwhile, the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield rose above 5.30%, bringing inflation and high interest rate pressures back into focus. There was some good news from France, where the 10-year government bond yield briefly fell after far-right opposition leader Le Pen pledged to cut spending, but then rebounded to 4.83%. In addition, U.S. stock index futures are currently little changed, keeping overall market sentiment cautious, with S&P 500 futures flat and Nasdaq futures down just 0.1%. The market will next focus on the $3.9 billion U.S. 10-year Treasury auction and the minutes of the Fed's September meeting.
