Data shows that Tesla Inc.'s most popular electric vehicle is cheaper in Tokyo than anywhere else in the world. A weak yen, combined with generous central and city subsidies introduced this year, can bring the price of the Model Y below $23,000. That's less than what a traveler would pay for a vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust at a Tokyo dealer. Tesla has also been highlighting these subsidies in its Japanese advertising, targeting customers in a market dominated by Toyota Motor Corp. and Suzuki Motor Corp. The Model Y was the most imported car in Japan in the first half of this year. Tesla lists the Model Y at 5.6 million in Japan. But buyers living in Tokyo can get it for 3.6 million ($22,889), thanks to central and city subsidies of up to about 2 million. With these incentives, the Model 3 can cost as little as 3.3 million.
