European Parliament debates Ceuta immigration crisis

On the 15th, the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, held a debate on the Ceuta migration crisis and is expected to vote on a resolution regarding the situation in Ceuta on the 17th. During the session that day, Members of the European Parliament and representatives from the EU discussed the humanitarian and security situation following the influx of a large number of migrants into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta at the end of July this year, as well as possible coordinated response measures at the EU level. EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Brunner stated in his speech that ensuring the swift return of all those illegally staying in Ceuta remains the EU's current top priority. He emphasized that the EU needs to learn lessons from the Ceuta situation, close existing loopholes, strengthen external border controls, and maintain the normal functioning of the Schengen Area.
