Investigation Report on the Incident of Three People Falling into Water and Dying from the Collision of Two Boats: Both Boats Lacked Proper Documentation, with the Angling Boat's Operator Bearing Primary Responsibility.
On August 17, the official website of the Weng'an County Government in Guizhou published the "Investigation Report on the Aquatic Collision Incident on May 4." The report states that on May 4, 2026, at approximately 19:35, a collision occurred between a lure fishing boat and a rubber dinghy in the Hongshui River of the Longtan Reservoir, resulting in the death of three people who fell into the water from the rubber dinghy. It was determined that the incident involved two individuals operating unregistered boats used for recreational fishing activities. During their spontaneous outing, a collision occurred due to violations of operational rules by both parties, leading to the drowning deaths of the three individuals and damage to the vessels. After the collision, none of the three individuals who fell into the water were wearing life jackets, and the lack of effective buoyancy support directly resulted in their drowning. The driver of the lure fishing boat, Chen, bears primary responsibility for this incident, and it is recommended that the relevant evidence of his criminal suspicion be referred to the public security authorities for formal investigation and legal accountability.
