Due to rising bond yields and soaring oil prices causing concern among investors, U.S. stock index futures fell. Nasdaq 100 futures, primarily composed of tech stocks, dropped 0.7% during the session, while S&P 500 futures fell by 0.4%. As investors worried about the long-term bond market, growth stocks were reduced in holdings; meanwhile, Brent oil continued its upward trend from Monday. Earlier this month, boosted by rekindled optimism around AI trading and a reduction in expectations for Federal Reserve rate hikes, the stock market experienced a rebound, but has since retreated. A fund manager survey by Bank of America strategists indicated that global equity allocation reached its highest level since November 2021, with 56% of surveyed investors overweight in stocks. The Nasdaq 100 has nearly recovered the ground lost during last months pullback, while the S&P 500 is currently close to its historical highs. Florian Ielpo, head of macro at Swiss Lombard Odier Asset Management, stated, The threshold for investment returns has risen again. This time its due to the combined effects of oil prices, fiscal supply, and long-term premiums, rather than an acceleration in short-term interest rate expectations.
