The first batch of national parks has achieved a dual increase in ecosystem quality and flagship species numbers.

According to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, China is comprehensively promoting the construction of a natural protected area system centered on national parks, achieving significant phased results, with the first batch of national parks seeing both improvements in ecosystem quality and flagship species numbers. Since the establishment of the national park system, the system of natural protected areas dominated by national parks has been fully advanced, and the "four beams and eight columns" of China's characteristic national parks have basically taken shape. In terms of habitat restoration, the first batch of five national parks has integrated over 120 various types of natural protected areas, comprehensively optimizing the authenticity and integrity of ecosystems, and protecting the source ecosystems of the Yangtze River, Yellow River, and Lancang River as a whole, while connecting the habitats of 13 local giant panda populations. The populations of flagship species have been effectively restored, with the population of Tibetan antelope increasing to over 70,000, wild Northeast tiger numbers rising from 27 at the beginning of the park's construction to 72, and wild Northeast leopard numbers growing from 42 to 115. The Hainan gibbon population has increased to 7 groups totaling 44 individuals, and new species such as the rain god toad have been discovered in Wuyi Mountain, achieving dual improvements in ecosystem quality and flagship species numbers. In terms of ecological benefits for the public, efforts to improve the ecological compensation mechanism continue, sharing the fruits of ecological protection. The five national parks have engaged 50,000 local residents as ecological caretakers, with an average annual income of 10,000 to 20,000 yuan. The Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, leveraging its excellent mountains, waters, and ecosystems, has seen the ecosystem's gross production value rise to 208.7 billion yuan. The construction of the Wuyi Mountain National Park No. 1 scenic road connects over 30 natural cultural landscapes and explores new models of protection and development around national parks, generating over 60 million yuan in additional income for local areas each year.
