A cargo ship was hijacked in waters near Somalia.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Office reported on the 17th that a cargo ship in the waters south of Mareb'yo, Somalia, was hijacked by a group of armed individuals. The report indicated that the incident occurred 4 nautical miles south of Mareb'yo. The cargo ship stated that 8 armed personnel boarded and took control of the vessel. The UK Maritime Trade Operations Office stated that relevant authorities are investigating the incident. They advise vessels in the area to proceed with caution and to report any suspicious activities to the office.
