According to Korean media reports, in response to the growing demand for artificial intelligence storage, SK Hynix has significantly increased its equipment investment and research and development expenditures in the first half of this year. Cash expenditures for the acquisition of tangible assets exceeded 18 trillion won, representing an over 70% increase compared to the same period last year. According to SK Hynix's semi-annual report disclosed on the 14th, cash expenditures for the acquisition of tangible assets for the company in the first half of this year amounted to 18.3288 trillion won, a 72.7% increase from 10.6157 trillion won in the same period last year. Research and development investment also saw a substantial increase. In the first half of this year, total R&D expenditure was 6.0428 trillion won, an increase of 98.4% compared to 3.0456 trillion won in the same period last year. Of this, 5.8163 trillion won was used for ongoing development costs. With the growing demand for AI-specific high-bandwidth memory (HBM), server DRAM, and enterprise-grade solid-state drives (SSD), SK Hynix is accelerating the expansion of its production facilities.
