Chadian President grants amnesty to former Prime Minister Moussa Mahamat and other political figures.

On the 14th, the Chadian presidential office announced that President Mahamat Idriss Deby signed a decree granting amnesty to political figures, including former Prime Minister Soulice Masra, and implementing partial sentence reductions for other convicted individuals nationwide. The presidential office stated that Soulice Masra, who had been sentenced to 20 years in prison for inciting interethnic violence, was granted amnesty. The judicial department will complete the necessary arrangements in the coming hours or days, allowing Masra and others to be released. Masra is the leader of the Chadian opposition party "Transformers" and served as the Prime Minister of Chad's transitional government from January to May 2024. He was arrested after conflicts in the town of Mandaka in May 2025 and was sentenced in August of the same year for inciting interethnic violence, among other charges.
