By the end of the second quarter of 2026, the total amount of assets in China's banking financial institutions, including both domestic and foreign currencies, reached 498 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.6%. Among them, the total assets of large commercial banks in both domestic and foreign currencies amounted to 221.6 trillion yuan, growing by 8.5% year-on-year, accounting for 44.5%. The total assets of joint-stock commercial banks in both domestic and foreign currencies were 80.4 trillion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 6.2%, accounting for 16.1%. By the end of the second quarter of 2026, insurance companies and insurance asset management companies had total assets of 43.9 trillion yuan, an increase of 6.2% compared to the beginning of the year. Among them, property insurance companies held 3.4 trillion yuan, increasing by 8.4% compared to the beginning of the year; life insurance companies had 38.7 trillion yuan, growing by 6.2% compared to the beginning of the year; reinsurance companies held 879 billion yuan, an increase of 2.5% compared to the beginning of the year; and insurance asset management companies had 149.1 billion yuan, increasing by 2.4% compared to the beginning of the year. By the end of the second quarter of 2026, the consolidated total assets of financial holding companies reached 29.1 trillion yuan, with consolidated total liabilities of 26.1 trillion yuan and consolidated net assets of 3 trillion yuan.
