According to Reuters, citing three informed sources, Apple (AAPL.O) has trained a large language model specifically for the Chinese market. This approach differs from its previous strategy of relying primarily on third-party models to support AI features in China. The sources state that this AI model was developed in collaboration with Alibaba and completed with the latter's support. The news of Apple training a dedicated AI model for China has not been previously reported. Previously, Apple preferred to rely on models provided by local partners to introduce generative AI features for iPhones and other devices sold in China. Neither Apple nor Alibaba responded to media requests for comments. The sources said that Apple's AI toolkit, Apple Intelligence, is expected to launch in China in the coming months following an update to the iOS operating system.
