Since South Korea launched 24-hour foreign exchange trading, the average daily trading volume has increased by over 10%.
On Friday, the South Korean Ministry of Finance stated that since the launch of around-the-clock foreign exchange trading last month, the average daily spot trading volume in the foreign exchange market has increased by more than 10%. The Ministry noted, Since the 24-hour foreign exchange trading system started on July 6, market infrastructure has operated smoothly without any incidents, and the exchange rate of the Korean won against the US dollar has remained stable compared to major currencies. According to statistics from the South Korean government, the average daily spot trading volume in the foreign exchange market during the first half of this year was $17.39 billion, which grew by 10.1% to $19.14 billion after the 24-hour trading system was launched. Participants pointed out that due to the system being in its early stages and time differences with overseas markets, the growth rate of trading volume during late-night hours has been relatively moderate.
