UAV attacks on Russian petrochemical hub result in 13 dead and 39 injured.

The mayor of the city of Nizhnekamsk, a major petrochemical hub in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, reported today that Ukraine launched a drone attack on the city's industrial and civilian targets, resulting in the deaths of 13 people, including one child, and injuries to 39 others. The Ukrainian military stated that the Tanko Refinery, operated by "Tatneft," was hit. This refinery is known to be one of the largest and most modern in Russia. In 2024, it processed 17 million tons of crude oil, producing 2.7 million tons of gasoline and 8.5 million tons of diesel. The refinery had also been attacked by Ukraine in early June of this year. Nizhnekamsk is located on the banks of the Kama River, over 600 miles (approximately 966 kilometers) deep within the borders of Russia, and is an important petrochemical center in the region. The Russian Federal Investigative Committee has classified the incident as a "terrorist attack" and has initiated a criminal case.
