Due to the supply disruptions in the Black Sea region, wheat prices have reached a one-week high.
Due to disruptions in Black Sea shipping, this important grain-producing region may experience supply shortages, causing U.S. wheat futures to rise to their highest level in over a week. Following the increased security risks brought about by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Turkey suspended the passage of its ships in the Black Sea last weekend. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called for a "suspension" of attacks in the region. Previously, Ukraine announced on Friday that due to Russian attacks, its agricultural exports for the 2026-2027 marketing year could decline by more than half from earlier expectations. The Ukrainian government stated that Ukraine is one of the world's major agricultural exporters, capable of supplying food for approximately 400 million people. Chicago's most actively traded wheat futures saw a maximum increase of 1.8% on Monday, reaching a new high since July 30, which propelled the entire grain sector upward. Hard red winter wheat contracts surged even more dramatically, with the main contract rising as much as 2.4%.
