According to informed sources, Turkey is restricting commercial vessels' access to the Black Sea due to an increase in attacks on ships in the area by Russia and Ukraine, raising concerns for the Turkish government. The Turkish Coast Guard has informed several vessels heading to Novorossiysk, a key oil and grain export hub in Russia, that it will not issue transit permits for such voyages at this time, and that applications for passage through the Dardanelles Strait will require more time for review. Sources stated that some vessels have been informed that this restriction also applies to those heading to Ukraine. Turkish authorities have not provided any explanation for this action. This move could add new complexities to global trade at a time when oil flows have already been severely disrupted due to the war in Iran and reduced transport capacity in the Strait of Hormuz.
