The European Central Bank only learned of the operation after the transaction of selling euros and buying yen was completed in the United States.
According to a report from the Financial Times, citing multiple informed sources, the European Central Bank was only informed of the U.S. operation of selling euros and buying yen last Friday after it had already taken place. ECB President Christine Lagarde communicated with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bellant on Saturday regarding this intervention action. A spokesperson stated that the foreign exchange stabilization fund used for this intervention was decided upon by the fund's reserve management, and the Treasury would not coordinate with foreign authorities. The report indicated that the European Central Bank declined to comment on this matter.
