Hundreds of World War II munitions found in wildfire areas in France.

In southwestern France's Gironde department, a severe forest fire recently triggered the explosion of some World War II ordnance left behind in the town of Le Porge. Explosive ordnance disposal personnel discovered around 400 shells, grenades, and other items forgotten by time. Le Porge is located along the Atlantic coast, not far from Bordeaux, the capital of the Gironde department. During this round of wildfires, continuous explosions were reported from Le Porge, prompting staff to identify this stockpile of ammunition. Last week, while on a mission, we found this area and cleared out 75 items of ordnance, Philippe Delermot, head of the explosive ordnance disposal department in Bordeaux, told France Info radio on the 3rd. We waited for a while today to enter the site until it had cooled down. Within just a few minutes, we found even more similar munitions here. This ordnance, mainly consisting of mortar shells, was left behind by the French and German armies during World War II, along with some anti-tank high-explosive rounds and grenades.
