The water level of the Rhine River has set a new historical low record, putting pressure on German shipping and logistics.

Due to the ongoing high temperatures and drought conditions, the water level of the Rhine River in Germany continues to decline. The Cologne hydrological station recorded a minimum water level of 67 to 68 centimeters on August 1, setting a new historical low, surpassing the record established in 2018. The water level at the Duisburg-Ruhrort hydrological station has also fallen to a historical low of 153 centimeters. It is understood that the sustained low water levels in the Rhine River have affected inland shipping, making it impossible for cargo ships to operate at full capacity, necessitating the transportation of goods in batches, which has increased logistics costs and decreased efficiency, putting further pressure on the German economy.
