Due to the surge in oil prices pushing up inflation expectations, the possibility of a later interest rate hike by the Bank of England has increased. UK government bond yields have subsequently risen. The annual inflation rate in the UK slowed from 2.8% in May to 2.6% in June, mainly due to a temporary fall in oil prices in June following a ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran. As conflicts in the Middle East escalate again, oil prices have resumed their rise. Brent crude oil rose 2.4% to $93.3 per barrel. The yield on UK 10-year government bonds rose by 1.3 basis points to 5.041%.
