Recently, the first national standard for regulating L2 level combined driving assistance, the mandatory national standard GB 47955-2026, was officially released, with the implementation deadline set for January 1, 2027. This standard was developed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, with the participation of nearly 40 car manufacturers and technology companies such as Huawei, Xiaomi, BYD, and Tesla. It is the first mandatory regulation to restrict L2 level driving assistance products. Meanwhile, another major mandatory national standard, GB 39901-2025, in the field of driving assistance, is scheduled to be implemented on January 1, 2028. The implementation of these two national mandatory standards signifies the official departure from the era of unruly growth for intelligent driving assistance in China, entering a new period of high-quality development with safety and compliance as the only access threshold. He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of XPeng Motors, told China Newsweek, "China's intelligent driving assistance, whether in terms of the effectiveness of companies or the formulation of relevant laws and regulations, is at the forefront globally." As a mandatory standard, the new national standard incorporates product development, hardware configuration, promotional language, and data retention into the access review system. This means that exaggerating advertisements is no longer just a matter of commercial ethics, but a violation of regulations touching the red line.
