Former Hungarian Foreign Minister joins BYD
On July 15th local time, former Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjrt announced his resignation as a member of parliament and joined the Chinese electric car giant BYD. Szijjrt has been a member of the Hungarian National Assembly since 2002 and served as Hungarian Foreign Minister from 2014 until May of this year. On July 15th, he announced on Facebook that he would be leaving parliament because he received a "highly prestigious invitation from one of the world's leading companies", BYD, to take on an international position. The 47-year-old Szijjrt wrote, "BYD is one of the most successful companies in the automotive industry over the past 20 years, and a global leader in new energy vehicle manufacturing. From today onwards, I will be responsible for external relations and expanding new business lines for the group." It is reported that BYD will begin construction of its first European electric car production plant in the southern Hungarian city of Szeged in 2024, and announced last year that it will relocate its regional business and research and development center from the Netherlands to Budapest.
