According to a report by the Financial Times, multiple sources have revealed that the European Commission plans to announce a series of penalty decisions against Google within the next week. At a time when tensions between the EU and the US over digital regulatory rules are beginning to ease, this move will further strengthen the EU's regulatory efforts towards large tech companies. According to an internal document from the European Commission and multiple sources familiar with the plans, EU enforcement agencies will make several independent decisions against Google and impose fines totaling up to several billion euros. This enforcement action will also include the threat of daily fines and new regulatory directives issued under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Under the EU's Digital Markets Act, companies found in violation could face fines of up to 10% of their global turnover, while Google's parent company, Alphabet, had a revenue of $402.83 billion last year.
