The Korea Economic Daily quoted anonymous industry sources as saying that Samsung Electronics plans to build a new DRAM factory in Hwaseong, South Korea, with a monthly capacity of approximately 100,000 wafers. The project is expected to have an investment scale of hundreds of trillion Korean won. The plot of land was originally planned for a research and development center; the market interprets this move as a response to the continued increase in demand for storage chips amid the ongoing surge in investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure. The project may start construction as early as the third quarter.
