The Hungarian Parliament approved an amendment to the "Basic Law" on the 13th, pushing for the removal of President Schtzk. According to this amendment, his term will end on the day after it comes into effect, and a new president will be elected by Parliament within 30 days. If the president refuses to sign the amendment, Parliament has the right to initiate impeachment proceedings. The amendment was passed with 139 votes in favor, 6 against, and 0 abstentions. The Youth Alliance led by former Prime Minister Orbn and the Basic Party did not participate in the vote, citing the amendment as "anti-democratic". The amendment requires the president's signature to take effect. The content of the amendment also includes setting a 12-year term limit for members of Parliament, setting the mandatory retirement age for Constitutional Court judges at 70, restoring the Constitutional Court's authority to review budget and tax legislation, and providing constitutional grounds for the establishment of a National Assets Recovery and Protection Office.
