Recently, the International Electrotechnical Commission officially released the first international standard for electron linear accelerators for radiation processing, led by China - "IEC63589-1:2026 Linear Accelerators for Radiation Processing - Part 1: General Requirements and Test Methods". This international standard was completed one year ahead of schedule, allowing China to move from "equipment research and development" to "regulation development" in the field of irradiation accelerators. Irradiation accelerators are widely used in areas such as modification of polymer materials, sterilization of medical consumables, preservation and quarantine of agricultural products, industrial waste treatment, and agricultural breeding, and are the core equipment for the application of green nuclear technology. The standard was jointly completed by the China National Nuclear Corporation's China Institute of Atomic Energy and the Nuclear Industry Standardization Research Institute, and involved the formation of an international drafting working group composed of experts from multiple countries. The entire drafting process took nearly two years to complete, one year earlier than originally planned.
