High temperatures in France lead to more than a thousand deaths in three days.
Preliminary data released by the French Public Health Agency on the 28th showed a significant increase in the number of deaths during the current heatwave in France, with over 1000 excess deaths recorded in just three days from June 24th to 26th. The increase was particularly pronounced in areas under red heatwave warnings, with deaths at home being especially severe. Excess deaths refer to the difference between the estimated total number of deaths at a specific location and time period and the estimated number of deaths without a health crisis. The agency reported that on June 24th, France recorded over 1200 deaths from all causes, with daily deaths exceeding 1400 on both the 25th and 26th, although the data for the 26th has not yet been confirmed. In comparison, daily deaths in France in April and May this year were around 900 to 1000. In recent days, the increase in deaths has been more pronounced in the red heatwave warning areas of le-de-France, Brittany, Centre-Val de Loire, Normandy, and particularly in Paris.
