The oldest active nuclear power plant in Europe has temporarily stopped operating due to high temperatures.
Due to high temperatures causing the river water used to cool the nuclear reactors to be too warm, Swiss energy company Axpo announced on June 26 that the Beznau nuclear power plant in northern Switzerland had been temporarily shut down that day. This nuclear power plant is the oldest operational nuclear power plant in Europe. Nuclear power accounts for about one third of Switzerland's electricity generation. This mountainous country has four nuclear power plant reactors, two of which are located at the Beznau nuclear power plant and began operating in 1969 and 1971, respectively.
