The Somali Ministry of Defense announced the killing of 30 extremist militants.
The Somali Ministry of Defense issued a statement on the 27th, announcing that the Somali armed forces, in coordination with international partners, have conducted a series of airstrikes in the central Shabelle region in recent days targeting hiding armed members of the extremist organization Al-Shabaab, killing a total of 30 members of the organization. Al-Shabaab is an extremist organization associated with the terrorist group Al-Qaeda, which started an insurgency in 2007 and was expelled from the capital Mogadishu by the Somali government forces in 2011. In recent years, this extremist organization has still been active in some rural areas, frequently launching attacks and planting landmines, posing a threat to local security.
