The "Tracking SDG 7: Energy Progress Report", jointly released by multiple United Nations agencies on the 24th, shows that there are still 655 million people worldwide without access to electricity. The report states that without urgent and larger-scale action, the world will not be able to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 7, which aims to ensure affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all by 2030. The report shows that most regions of the world are close to achieving universal access to electricity, but progress is slow in sub-Saharan Africa where over 560 million people do not have electricity and 970 million people lack access to clean cooking energy.
