Fudan University's Rui Mingjie: Pay attention to the hidden pollution that may exist in future industries.
The Shanghai Forum on Science and Technology Innovation Think Tank International Symposium will be held on June 24th and 25th, 2026. Rui Mingjie, Director of the Center for Enterprise Development and Management Innovation at Fudan University, stated that some future industries may have hidden pollution. For example, the "intangible" environmental costs of the digital industry have not been effectively addressed, and the identification, manipulation, and prevention of AI virtual information and knowledge are also major challenges that urgently need to be addressed. At the same time, attention should be paid to the contradiction between the resource demands of future industries and ecological carrying capacity. For example, high-energy-consuming future industries such as data centers and semiconductor manufacturing conflict to some extent with the "dual carbon" target, and there are conflicts between the extraction of key mineral resources such as lithium, cobalt, and rare earths and environmental protection.
