The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States issued a statement on Wednesday ordering SpaceX to investigate the cause of the failure of its Starship booster during the test flight on May 22. This means that SpaceX must suspend all subsequent Starship test flights until the investigation is completed and the results are submitted to the agency for review. As a result, the possibility of SpaceX conducting another test flight before its scheduled mid-June launch has greatly diminished. The FAA stated in its announcement, "After a comprehensive evaluation of the launch mission, we determined that an anomaly occurred during the 12th flight of the Starship on May 22. The incident occurred as the booster returned to the Gulf of Mexico after the rocket's stage separation. There have been no reports of injuries or damage to public property. The agency will oversee the investigation led by SpaceX, participate in all aspects, and review the company's final investigation report and all corrective actions."
