The Chinese Academy of Engineering revoked the title of academician from Zhang Yao.

Recently, the Chinese Academy of Engineering announced its decision to revoke the title of academician from Zhang Yao. The decision stated that Zhang Yao, former member of the Party Committee and President of Central South University, was expelled from the Party and dismissed from public office for serious violations of discipline and laws, as announced on the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection on May 21. According to relevant regulations of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the decision to revoke Zhang Yao's title of academician will take effect from May 21, 2026.
