Cross-border passenger flow continues to rise, and the high-speed rail connecting Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong has become the "golden gateway" for interconnection in the Greater Bay Area.
Reporters learned from the Shenzhen railway department that from January to April 2026, the cross-border passenger flow of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway continued to increase, transporting a total of 11.08 million cross-border passengers, an increase of 1.44 million from the same period last year, a 15% increase. Among them, 5.378 million passengers traveled from Hong Kong to the mainland, and 5.702 million passengers traveled from the mainland to Hong Kong. The flow of passengers in both directions is becoming increasingly close, and the role of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway as a "golden passage" is becoming more prominent. During this year's May Day holiday, the willingness of passengers to travel is strong, and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway is expected to transport an average of 11.9 thousand cross-border passengers per day, with the peak passenger flow expected to occur on May 1st, reaching an estimated 140 thousand passengers.
