Press Conference by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce on the U.S. Federal Communications Commission's Review and Approval of Testing and Certification Measures and Relevant Restrictive Measures in the Telecommunications Sector

Question: On April 30th, EDT, the Federal Communications Commission of the United States reviewed and approved relevant restrictions, intending to revoke the qualifications of national testing and certification agencies that have not signed "reciprocal agreements" with the United States and to prohibit entities listed in the so-called "entity list" from conducting telecommunications business in the United States. Subsequent related measures will seek public opinion. Does the Ministry of Commerce have any comments on this? The Federal Communications Commission of the United States has abandoned the principle of technological neutrality, generalized the concept of national security, and frequently introduced restrictive measures without factual basis, discriminatory treatment of enterprises and products from China and other countries, seriously damaging the interests of China and other relevant trading partners. These restrictive measures undermine the hard-won stability of Sino-US economic and trade relations, violate the consensus reached by the heads of state of both countries, and China is highly concerned about this and firmly opposes it. We have noticed that the Federal Communications Commission of the United States also intends to seek public opinion on the relevant restrictions. If eventually implemented, it will seriously disrupt the international economic and trade order, disrupt the stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain in the fields of communication electronics and related areas, impact global industrial cooperation and technological innovation, and also harm the interests of the US industry and consumers, affecting the security of its own supply chain. We hope the US side will heed the voices of the industry, respect market rules, stop the wrong practices, and revoke the relevant measures. If the US insists on its own way, China will firmly take necessary measures to firmly defend the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
